Pansies, with their heart-shaped petals and striking colors, grow quickly and strongly, making them perfect for containers or beds. Although breeding has created cold-resistant types, heat-resistance hasn't been as successful. While technically a short-lived perennial, they are mostly grown as annuals, complementing spring bulbs in gardens. Though not very tall, taller pansies may lean or spill.
